Hotel bag: which bag to give guests, from arrival to the spa

Welcome bag, spa bag, pool bag, boutique bag: what each hotel bag must withstand, and why one well-chosen bag can replace a whole stack of them.

Key points

  • A hotel bag is judged in water, steam and sun cream, not in the catalogue photo.
  • The right bag waits in the room, follows the guest to the spa and goes home in the suitcase: one object, three moments.
  • A well-made bag carries your house well beyond check-out: your colours, your pattern, your finish.

A hotel guest can receive four bags during a stay: one on arrival, one for the spa, one for laundry, one from the boutique. Each has a job. Together, they say a lot about the house that hands them out. Here is what each bag must withstand, and how to choose the one your guests will want to keep.

The four bags a hotel hands out

The welcome bag is the most visible: it waits for the guest on the bed or on the bench, with a gift inside. The spa and pool bag is the most exposed: it goes from the edge of the bath to the sun lounger, often wet. The laundry bag works behind the scenes. The boutique bag leaves the hotel with the guest.

The more bags there are, the more objects to buy, store and sometimes throw away. So the useful question is not “which bag for each moment?” but “which bag can cover several moments?”

What a hotel bag must endure

A hotel bag does not live in a shop window. It lives in a bathroom, at the spa, by a pool. The real tests are simple to list:

  • Water: the edge of the bath, the sauna bench, the swimsuit that is still damp.
  • Grease: sun cream, massage oil, hands.
  • Weight: two damp bath towels, a bathrobe, a bottle of water.
  • Structure: put down on the floor or on a lounger, it must stand up, not collapse.
  • Image: the foil, the embossing and the colours must still look sharp on day three.

Paper, cotton, plastic: the limits of each

The luxury paper bag offers the most graphic freedom: fine printing, foil, embossing. But humidity often calls for lamination, and depending on the paper, the bag can stay sensitive to water, grease and tearing. At the spa, how it holds up depends on the treatment.

The cotton bag or tote bag is an object the guest can keep. But cotton can absorb moisture, often has little structure once put down depending on the make, and its finishes differ from those of premium paper.

The reusable plastic bag resists water. But its look is often utilitarian.

The mineral-based bag takes the codes of high-end paper with a different behaviour in water. NotPaper is made mostly of calcium carbonate, with no wood fibre: it does not soak up water, depending on the application, and is made without lamination: the resistance comes from the material. Spot varnish and hot foil remain finishes added as an option.

One bag, three moments

The scenario that works best has three steps. On arrival, the bag waits for the guest in the room, placed like a gift. During the stay, it goes to the spa with the bathrobe, the swimsuit and the towel, then comes back. At departure, the guest can slip it into the suitcase.

From the sauna bench to the guest's shoulder: the same bag, from the first day to the last.

One object can then replace the welcome bag, the spa bag and part of the boutique bag. And if the guest leaves with it, your house keeps existing at their place: on the beach, at the market, in town.

The best hotel bag is not the one you hand over. It is the one the guest keeps.

A bag that carries your house

A hotel bag is more than a container. Placed in the room, it is one of the first things guests touch; at the spa, it goes from hand to hand; at check-out, it may end up in their suitcase. At every step, it carries your colours, your pattern, the finish you chose.

That is where the difference lies between a bag you hand out and a bag guests keep: how it holds up on day three, how crisp the foil still is, how good it feels on the shoulder. A well-made object carries the stay well beyond departure.

How to choose yours

Before ordering, put the bag through the same tests your guests will:

  1. Wet it. Leave it at the edge of a bath or on a damp bench for an hour.
  2. Stand it up. Empty, then loaded: does it stay upright?
  3. Load it. Two damp bath towels, a bathrobe: do the handles hold?
  4. Look at the finishes. After handling, are the foil and the colours still sharp?
  5. Picture it after the stay. Would your guest want to keep it?

The simplest way is to test the prototype with your teams, in your own bathrooms. That is what we offer with The Stay Bag: see it, wet it, carry it, then build your version.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get asked.

Which size should a hotel bag be?

The size of its main use. For the spa and the pool, a bathrobe and a towel must slip inside. The Stay Bag is made in a custom size, defined with you.

Can we go beyond the logo?

Yes: colours, patterns and printing, then hot foil, embossing and spot varnish, finishes added as an option. The handles can also take your house colour.

Does the bag really resist water?

It is designed for this use. NotPaper does not soak up water, depending on the application, and is made without lamination: the resistance comes from the material. At the edge of the bath or on the sauna bench, we test it with you on the prototype.
